Black Tide - Cosmic Horror and the Human Experience

January 25, 2023 by Samantha in Spooky Reads

I received this book in my August 2022 "Growing Darkness" Night Worms package. If I'm not mistaken, I think another book was supposed to come in this package, but due to delayed shipping, the ladies of Night Worms had to choose something else. Boy, am I glad they chose this.

This book is basically an action-packed sci-fi thriller movie. It is isolating. There are only a few characters present. K.C. Jones made me hate them, relate to them, and love them over the course of the book, which is always a great feat. And of course there be monsters. The fear that flowed through me like a rising tide... well that's just what cosmic horror does. It is delicious and paralyzing.

I loved the writing because it was casual and real. It was conversational, thoughtful, and witty. It was always believable. Jones evidently put much time and effort into Black Tide. The result is a novel that captures more about the human experience than the maddening things that may or may not be waiting on the other side of our reality.
