Camp Twilight - Somebody New Has an Axe to Grind

October 27, 2020 by Charlotte Hollingsworth in HB Halloween 2020, Horror Movie Reviews

Camp Twilight is coming to VOD platforms on November 1st and is written by Brandon Amelotte and Felissa Rose, it’s directed by Amelotte.

Premise:

In Florida is a park that has a dangerous murderous history. A group of students who are failing school are taken on a weekend camping trip to the park’s Camp Twilight for extra credit. But during their trip rangers and fellow classmates start showing up dead. Who’s killing them? Who will survive the weekend? And who exactly is the killer?

What I loved:

Felissa Rose is outstanding as always. Unfortunately, in this movie there’s a lot of awkward acting with strange pauses in between dialogue -but Felissa Rose stands out and covers for that most of the time. She plays an over excited teacher that all of us can relate to having in our past. And at the end she has an incredibly emotional and dramatic couple of scenes that stops from going completely over the top by her great performance.

Another standout for me was Ranger Bob – played by Dave Sheridon, he had some really great hilarious moments. Throughout the whole flick he provides the hilarious one-liners with ease.

There’s a lot of great horror icons in here – Felissa Rose obviously, alongside Linnea Quigley and Camille Keaton. It’s fun seeing them come together in a horror flick written by Rose herself.

The ending’s twist is a fun turn of events that you probably won’t guess. The middle of the movie is more of a teen drama than anything else and lags a bit, but the final showdown is lightning fast and super enjoyable.

Overall:

Look, Camp Twilight doesn’t bring anything new to the slasher or campground horror subgenre. But it brings beloved horror icons into a fun environment with some interesting twists and turns. And it looks like it also leaves room for a potential sequel…it’s worth checking out!

Check it out on VOD, November 1st!
