My Ex, The Antichrist - a pop-punk kid's dream!

June 24, 2025 by Charlotte Hollingsworth in Spooky Reads, Upcoming Releases

Lily Lawlor is the famous lead singer of a pop-punk band who came to fame in the early ‘00s. But after ten years of success, she walks into a police station and confesses to a murder. Lily and her band, The Shivers, have never admitted to what happened to them, until now. Sitting down with the author, they tell the horrifying story in full.

Hitting bookshelves July 1st is the upcoming release from Craig DiLouie and you don’t want to miss this one.

Long-time readers of this site know I am a MASSIVE DiLouie fan, and wait patiently for every new release. And when My Ex, The Antichrist showed up in my mail box, I was GIDDY. And as a kid that grew up listening to pop-punk and devoured musician biographies under my high school desk…this was everything I needed.

Told from various perspectives including the band, managers, local radio hosts, and religious scholars, this story is a fast paced, exciting read. We learn about Lily when she first fell in love with a man named Drake, a charismatic handsome singer. And how the two of them formed a band and began to play shows around the local area. But Drake is more than charismatic, and believes his dreams are guiding him throughout his life. And when the band plays their first set, the audience begins to go crazy, attacking each other, starting orgies, and basically giving into their most demonic internal cravings. As things get out of hand, we watch as the band fails and succeeds and fights for their lives, their souls, and the fate of the world.

I just loved everything about this book. Lily is absolutely the bad ass front woman I wished I was when I was a teenager. And I thoroughly enjoyed how unbelievably chaotic this story gets. One particular massacre scene in a church was so hardcore I just read it with my jaw on the floor. The story is a great mix of heartfelt, earnest characters alongside bat shit insane potentially world-ending events.

And I nerded out so hard with all the music and music scene references. I genuinely felt like I was 17 again, going to local shows, and staying up late listening to music that made me feel less alone.

Overall, this is another fantastic story from DiLouie and it really felt like he put his heart and soul (no pun intended) into it. A big thank you to Orbit, and Run For It, for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. Please go and read this book!!! Especially if you’re a kid from the ‘90s and early ‘00s who dreamt of Warped Tour and battle of the bands and obsessively watched band tour DVDs. You’ll feel right at home.
