Murder Land - A "can't put this down" Read!
“…but I can confirm that I was there on Murder Land’s Preview Night the evening of the killings and I know who the murderer is.”
Billie works at California Land theme park and is thrilled with her new promotion to ride operator. The park is opening a new section; “Murder Land”, and she’s apart of opening night. Her friends have been given guest passes, and when Billie sees a chance to get all of them on the brand new ride alone, they jump at the chance. But when the ride comes to a finish, one of her coworkers is dead and suddenly Billie and her friends find themselves in a real life nightmare, and no one is telling the truth.
On shelves May 6th, Murder Land by Carlyn Greenwald is a must-read!
I devoured this whole thing throughout one Sunday, only taking breaks when I remembered to eat. This story is so fast paced and addictive! But it’s also emotional and funny and sad and scary. I didn’t want to leave Billie, Grace, Sawyer, and Leon either. I was so invested in their story and terrified to see who would make it out alive.
I’m also obsessed with theme parks, as well as the conspiracy theories and strange deaths that theme parks hide, so this was obviously right up my alley. Because at the end of the day, California Land is owned by a big corporation, and that’s never a good sign. And you best believe there’s some commentary in this book about big corporations and the lengths they’ll go to keep people quiet.
I loved the backstory of the theme park, the history that we delve into, and I loved the exploration of this theme park’s own conspiracy theories. Billie, Grace, and Leon are such theme park nerds and I felt a kinship with them while reading.
I can’t say too much about the story and the deaths without spoiling anything so I will try to be vague. Murder Land is a complex, twisty, thriller meets horror novel that gives off Five Nights at Freddy, Escape from Tomorrow, and One of us is Lying vibes. It feels mature and really thought out. Even if you predict the killer, you won’t be able to predict everything and will still enjoy all the twists and turns this story takes. As a chronically online youtube nerd, I also very much enjoyed the ending.
Murder Land by Carlyn Greenwald is available where books are sold on May 6th and I highly recommend picking up a copy. You’ll have a fantastic time! A big thank you to Sourcebooks for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
